Rehabilitation Services
Independence House offers full-cycle comprehensive rehabilitation programs including physical, occupational, speech therapy and aquatic therapy. Each program is designed to help individuals reach the highest level of independence possible and facilitate a safe return to the home and community. Out-patient services are also available.
Physical, Speech, and Occupation Therapy
Situations where a short-term rehab stay may be appropriate include but not limited to:
- Major surgery (orthopedic, gastrointestinal or cardiac surgery)
- Exacerbation of a medical condition (diabetes, cancer, respiratory illnesses, congestive heart failure, vertigo, or balance disorders, dehydration, malnutrition or retractable pain)
- Sudden medical trauma (stroke, brain injury, fall, heart attack, renal failure, or respiratory failure)
Aquatic Therapy
Aquatic therapy is of great benefit to individuals who have difficulty with traditional physical therapy. Patients with pain, weakness and weight-bearing restrictions find the warm soothing water and its natural properties allow muscles to relax while helping to reduce pain. The buoyancy reduces gravitational pull making exercises easier to perform. Because of the decreased resistance and pain level patients receive a greater range of motion which helps to improve balance and strength.
You may benefit from aquatic therapy if you have any of the following conditions:
- Arthritis
- Pain in neck or back
- Muscle weakness
- Joint pain
